While we are primarily wedding photographers, we also also LOVE capturing other milestones. An engagement. A family reunion. An elopement. And one of our favorites, the first few days of a child’s life. And our fine art / documentary style lends itself well to home visits with our clients. We don’t generally need artificial lighting or a studio space. All we really need is soft window light to capture precious moments between parents and their child. And having an in-home newborn portrait session makes it much easier on the parents in all of the happy chaos that comes with the new addition to their family. Who doesn’t like to be as comfortable as possible? We met Kara & Sean at their home in Branford where just a couple of years prior we photographed Kara and her bridesmaids getting ready for her & Sean’s wedding in Guilford.
It was kind of a trip to be back in the room where we photographed her wedding dress and details to find baby Benjamin’s new space. We loved how Kara & Sean decorated, and it looked perfect for Benjamin. There was an abundance of cute, thoughtful details that fit their baby just right. And what an absolute cutie pie he is! He was really cooperative for photos, which was great, but not a requirement. An in-home newborn portrait session tends to last longer on average than other family shoots as we don’t finish until we feel satisfied. That means that parents can take all the time they need to make sure their baby is relaxed, happy, and fed for photos (not necessarily in that order!). And we provide plenty of information to our new parents before the shoot on how to prepare for the best possible photos so that they can get some much need relaxation while we are happily capturing their child (and them). And we got some really sweet, adorable stuff. Our thanks to Kara & Sean for having us into their beautiful home to photograph their beautiful family – what an awesome day!
